John Granger; 87

Please, John Granger, please FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND RIGHT--get OFF Teh CRAX! *cries*

(In case you haven't heard.)

I feel so very let down. :(

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

In happier news, my grandmother celebrated her 87th birthday this week. We had a lovely little family celebration. And ice cream cake. And I nearly contained my amusement at the exact number of her years. ;)

I have printed at length her remarks about “ANVIL sized hints” that Harry/Hermione shippers were too stupid to pick up. In case you thought these remarks were just funny and not hurtful, please see http://www.petitiononline.com/4harmony/ for fans trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after she spoke about them this way.

I had to laugh at that. Anyone needing to pick up their pieces of their lives after JKR supposedly spoke of the that way needs to evaluate their priorities, quick!

And I think Mr. Granger isn't that familiar with the fandom. I want to introduce him to archives of shipping debates. I also want him to read the current H/Hr outbursts, post-HBP. Let's see if he doesn't change his mind after that. Let's see if he doesn't find 'delusional' too mild to describe H/Hr.

As for Mr. Granger shipping Harry/Hermione, it's okay. I've seen similar arguments from H/Hr shippers. :)

I must also say that Mr. Granger's theories have taken the two ugliest cliches of the H/Hr ship: killing off Rona nd Ginny; and assuming only Hermione has selfless love for Harry.

This bothers me most:

This sacrificial and transcendent love that Harry has in abundance and which is his only hope in defeating Voldemort is agape or a selfless love much greater than romantic love.

As implausible as it must seem now, I think that this is the love that Hermione has for Harry (and that Ron feels for his best friend, too), which, if Ron and Ginny die – and Harry doesn’t!), could also lead to the final pairing of the books.

Mr. Granger assumed that only Hermione has this feeling. Of course he considered Ron, but Mr. Granger thinks he's gonna die along with Ginny anyway. So we have the ultimate H/Hr cliche: Ron and Ginny dying while Hermione's selfless love saves the day. Honestly, can you see it happening? :)

there are more than a few clues in the books that Harry is headed to a Sidney Carton like ending (beheading to save his friends)

I bet I can guess who he's been corresponding with ...
