Advice

Does anyone have advice on selling on eBay?

Does anyone have advice on selling comic books?

I have a large collection, mostly from the mid- to late nineties, that I must get rid of. Cheap. (I know comics printed after 1981 typically aren't worth much). The thing is, even at pretty cheap prices, most comics of the type I want to sell aren't being bid on *at all* at eBay. What can I do?!?

wachagot?

so, um... what all do you have in this collection of yours, and what are you looking to get for it?

I noticed with auctions for action figures, they would tend to sell them in "lots", having one or two desirable figures grouped in with the ones everyone already had. This was a way to unload the less desirables with the special ones.

If your problem, though, is that people just aren't buying them AT ALL... well, that's a bit more consternating.

Re: wachagot?

Copied from other comment: Mostly X-Men, other X-titles, and related one-shots and mini-series. Also some Incredible Hulk, Gen 13, Union (Image), Impulse (DC), and Sandman (stuff in the 51-75 range, nothing early that actually sells well).

what are you looking to get for it

Most of it I would practically give away for free. I need the closet space, not the money.

And do these lots get bids? (Hey, I've got action figures to sell too. And Magic: The Gathering cards.) Yeah, I would sell in lots, too, if I could. But really, it looks like it's often actually easier to get a bid when you have the desirable items by themselves. Guess no one else wants extra stuff to keep in boxes in the closet either.

Yeah, 90s comics are worth next to nothing. :/ I have the same problem and some research led me to believe Ebay isn't quite the answer. Maybe sell in bulk to a comic shop or something?

Which titles are you getting rid of?

Yeah, I think I might give a couple shops in the area a call this week.

I was going to second seviet's suggestion. I know there was a shop in DeLand (Cliff's Books) that used to have lots of comic books, and I reckon they (or others like it) would be willing to take the books off your hands, probably not for top price but for something.

Good luck with it.

I'm sort of in the same situation. I have a lot from the 70s and 80s, and I want to get rid of them. Thanks for making this post; I've already had a local dealer who said he would take them.

There are some I have to keep, like Legion of Super-Heroes and Elfquest.

*nods* I definitely think now that a local dealer is the way to go. My SIL reminded me yesterday that there's a comic shop in our area that carries a lot of anime and manga as well (and we know they carry used items), so I might go there and try to get a higher value for my comics in trade than I would be able to get in cash.

Yeah, I keep debating with myself whether or not to pull out a few favorites to keep.

I feel your pain. Too many books/comics and no room. That reminds me that I have tons of Hana to Yume to get rid of and some manga. So, if you go to this 'local dealer', could you find out if they will take Japanese manga phonebooks?

Here's what I finally wound up doing with a bunch of my beloved magazines. If the goal is to get rid of them, donate them to salvation army or the thrift store equivalent in your area. If you really hope to make a few cents on them, try a second-hand book store. They might be interested in buying your collection. Don't expect a huge financial paypack though. You won't get back anywhere near what you invested in the collection.
