Time to get started.

Ever since I discovered these LiveJournal things I have been desperate to get one. Why? Because I am incredibly lonely. I graduated from college a year and a half ago, and all my friends have scattered to the winds. I moved back in with my parents, and they’re not bad for company, but still…it’s not quite the same as having my own friends. There are some young adults at church I get along with, but no one I’m really close to. Most of my close friends are in Tallahassee, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Kentucky, Pensacola, and various other places that require extensive traveling to reach. I have a few friends in DeLand—those who are still in school—but they’re pretty busy with, you know, school.

So I am increasingly getting most of my social interaction online, mostly at Harry Potter sites like FAP and the SugarQuill. Which is nice, but in some ways it’s a little impersonal, because you are somewhat restricted in those places as to what you can talk about. But I’ve noticed that with LiveJournal there seems to be more of an opportunity to get to know people in a broader sense, instead of just knowing which ships they ship or whatever, because there’s no law that says you have to be “ontopic,” so LJ users can both talk about Harry Potter and ships and whatnot, but they can also talk about all sorts of other things. Anyway, I’ve been visiting LJs of various friends from FAP and I’ve just noticed that there seems to be a lot more interconnectedness on LJ.

Also, I thought it would be a good way to keep in touch with my long-distance friends. I mean, it’s a little tough to keep up correspondence with everyone through email and phone calls and such when so many of your friends are out-of-town. All of those modes of communication are one-on-one (in general), so it takes a lot of time to keep up with that many long-distance friends. This way, I can let all my friends and family with internet access know what’s going on with me much more efficiently.

It’s a good thing.

All right, Mum is calling me ‘cause we’re going shopping, so I guess that’s all for my first entry, except to include some quiz results:

Candle on the Water
Your Disney love song is Candle on the Water from
Pete's Dragon. This song is about never giving
up on the person you love, even if the rest of
the world has.

What is your Disney Love Song?
brought to you by Quizilla

So true.
