Some Christmas games

The Christmas Carol Acronym Game

See if you can tell which well-known Christmas songs the letters abbreviate.
Example: H C S C = "Here Comes Santa Claus." (ten questions)

1. T L D B
2. R T R N R
3. O C A Y F
4. H Y A M L C
5. S N
6. J T T W
7. I D O A W C
8. O L T O B
9. G R Y M G
10. F T S

The Lyrics Meme - Christmas/winter holiday style

Guess which seasonal songs the lyrics are from. I'm using mainly a bit lesser-known traditional songs, or lesser-known verses of well-known tradtional songs, but there are also a few modern holiday or winter-themed songs by popular artists. (ten questions)

1.
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone.
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
[Song title], long ago.

2.
There's a happy feeling nothing in the world can buy
When they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin
[winter squash] pie.

3.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

4.
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
And in His name all oppression shall cease.

5.
Snow can wait; I forgot my mittens.
Wipe my nose, get my new boots on.
I get a little warm in my heart when I think of winter.
I put my hand in my father's glove.

6.
Son of God, love's pure light.

7.
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

8.
And everyone is singing--
I hear those sleigh bells ringing.
Santa won't you please
Bring me what I really need--
Won't you please bring my baby to me?

9.
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.

10.
Just for a moment I was back at school,
And felt that old familiar pain.
And as I turned to make my way back home,
The snow turned into rain.

*sigh* It's been a lovely day. I hope it has been for you as well.

Joie

P.S. Thanks, antbee, for the gift!

Current Mood: good good
Current Music: Stetson U Concert Choir ~ "Prepare the Way, O Zion."

booyah! and a merry Christmas to you all!

no, I have not looked at any of the posts below. (and no, I did not look on google).

1. The Little Drummer Boy
2. Rudolph the Red nose reindeer
3. Oh Come all ye' faithful
4. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
5. Silent Night
6. Joy to the World
7. I'm Dreaming of a White christmas
8. Oh Little town of Bethlehem
9. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
10. Frosty The Snowman

3. Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire
4. the first of the two lines is painfully familiar
5.
6. Silent Night
7. Angels from the Realms of Glory
8.
9. We three kings
10. don't think I've heard of that one at all, for sure

I can see what you mean by having a lot of Christmas songs in your home... I haven't heard a bunch of these around here.
it's usually other arrangements that my dad plays too much of.
Also, with the latter parts, I usually have a much better time with knowing tunes than words. Give me a tune, and I'll tell you if I've heard it, more often than the words.

Have a good Christmas, gal!

Number 3 on the lyrics game is incorrect, but good job on all the rest!

Re: booyah! and a merry Christmas to you all!

Um, no. The correct answer is "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire)" is a similar kinda slow jazz Christmas tune, but it is, in fact, a different song.

*pats* It's all right. But next time, if you're going to argue with the teacher, make sure you're right, first. :P
