Christmas game answers, a riddle, and a birthday greeting

1. T L D B = The Little Drummer Boy
2. R T R N R = Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
3. O C A Y F = O Come All Ye Faithful
4. H Y A M L C = Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
5. S N = Silent Night
6. J T T W = Joy to the World
7. I D O A W C = I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas
8. O L T O B = O Little Town of Bethlehem
9. G R Y M G = God Rest Ye Merry Hippogriffs Gentlemen
10. F T S = Frosty the Snowman

Congratulations to solusfides, who got all ten right! Runners-up were connielane and piperx with nine each, and dianora with eight.

1.
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone.
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
[Song title], long ago.

"In the Bleak Mid-Winter" (connielane, dianora)

2.
There's a happy feeling nothing in the world can buy
When they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin
[winter squash] pie.

"Sleigh Ride" (connielane, liwy)

3.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (connielane) The version I have on iTunes is by James Taylor, and it's FABULOUS!

4.
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
And in His name all oppression shall cease.

From the verse of "O Holy Night" that I always feel annoyed when they change or skip, which they do all too frequently. (connielane, dianora, liwy)

5.
Snow can wait; I forgot my mittens.
Wipe my nose, get my new boots on.
I get a little warm in my heart when I think of winter.
I put my hand in my father's glove.

"Winter" by Tori Amos (connielane)

6.
Son of God, love's pure light.

"Silent Night" (connielane, liwy, solusfides, dianora)

7.
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

"Angels from the Realms of Glory" (connielane, solusfides)

This one is still up for grabs, since nobody guessed it. It's a modern song by a female pop singer who leans a bit towards the R & B style. I'll add a few more lines (in bold):

8.
And everyone is singing--
I hear those sleigh bells ringing.
Santa won't you please
Bring me what I really need--
Won't you please bring my baby to me?

Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas,
This is all I'm asking for:
I just want to see my baby,
Standing right outside my door.
I just want you for my own,
More than you could ever know.
Make my wish come true!
Baby, [song title].

ETA: Yay! shipaholic got it. The answer is...

"All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey

9.
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.

"We Three Kings" (connielane, liwy, solusfides, dianora)

10.
Just for a moment I was back at school,
And felt that old familiar pain.
And as I turned to make my way back home,
The snow turned into rain.

"Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg (connielane, piperx)

My fellow choral veteran connielane wins this one with nine correct answers. She pretty much left everyone else in the dust. :D

If anyone is in the mood for another brain teaser, here's the riddle I wrote for the Who Am I? thread at FAP. Remember, this can be any person, place, or thing in the HP world:

For my beauty and speed,
I was ravaged by greed.
But I was saved,
And they put in my place
The "Rich Reveal"
Or the "Shiny Steal".

Dude, when I went to copy this from the thread, I saw that the torch is now back in my posession. *panics* I don't have any ideas! Anyone want to help me out?

Last but not least, I still have time to say:

Happy birthday, melissa_tlc!!!

*yawns* I went to Cardio Kickboxing class tonight, and I am EXHAUSTED! Think I'd better go to bed early (for me, anyway) tonight.

Joie

"Shiny Steal"

I'm assuming that's not a typo...

Number 8 is 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', by... I think Mariah Carey did a cover, although the version I have is sung by Olivia Olsen. (P.S. - let the record show that I knew the answer before the extra lyrics were posted, honest. :p)

Good for you!

Actually, though I have long had a suspicion that Carey's version of the song was a cover, my research via Google suggests otherwise. Searches for the song are overwhelmingly associated with her name. Olivia Olsen appears to have recorded a later version of the song for the Love Actually soundtrack. There is also an older recording of a song with the same title, sung by Lisa Layne of Vince Vance and the Valiants, but as far as I can tell, it isn't the same song.
